Dear Delegates, Advisors and Esteemed Guests,
I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all of you as we gather for the 17th session of the Robert College International Model United Nations. This year, the conference will host participants from all over the world between 5-8 April.
After two years of virtual conferences, the sixteenth session of RCIMUN was held at the Robert College campus with a total of 562 attendants, with 394 delegates accompanied by their advisors, 104 individual attendants, and guest speakers. The conference hosted a wide range of schools coming from different cities around Turkey and from around the world. This year, the conference will once again take place in our campus and Istanbul in accordance with the Ministry of Education directives and our school’s COVID-19 Health & Safety Policy to ensure a safe and enjoyable conference experience for all.
The RCIMUN conference has always provided a venue for young minds to participate in incisive conversation, develop critical thinking, and work together to find creative solutions to the most serious problems facing the globe. This year our conference will have the theme of "International Reconciliation: Resilience in the face of Shifting Power Dynamics” and our agenda items have been selected in accordance. Our theme letter, which will be published soon on our website, will explore the idea further; therefore, the participants are encouraged to refer to the letter and the agenda items which are currently available.
In addition to our previous forums, I am thrilled to announce that this year RCIMUN will be offering two new committees: the Economic and Financial Committee and the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) along with a novel focus on policies regarding environmental action and protection in the Special Conference. We believe that with the shift in the paradigms as we know it, it is necessary to establish a place for youth to get involved in decision making.
With the extensive efforts of our executive team, I am looking forward to hosting you at our acclaimed conference and working with all of you to establish an international platform to discuss the changing relations in our world and find a common ground in a world of ever-changing conventions. As one of the most prestigious MUN conferences in Turkey and Europe, we will be ensuring that RCIMUN will once again be providing an unmatched experience to all of its participants. May our meeting in April be an intellectually stimulating journey for us all.
Cordially,
Lara Begüm Yener
Secretary-General of RCIMUN 2024
