My name is Mehmed Can Olgaç, however my beloved friends commonly refer to me as Memo. I am a sophomore at Robert College of Istanbul. I like watching movies, listening to music and reading books. Just kidding, I’m not “that” cliché. Unfortunately I am not gifted with a lot of free time during school; however when I find time, I try to spend it with my friends, going out, playing football or simply having a conversation. This year’s RCIMUN will be my 3rd so far. Last year I was serving as a prosecutor in RCMICC and the year before, I was an admin in the Disarmament Committee. Nowadays MUN covers a huge part of my life and I can frankly say that I am enjoying it to the fullest.
As you know, the theme of this year’s conference is “The Global Refugee Crisis” which is, in my very humble opinion, a perfect fit to today’s agenda in the Middle East Region. People are trying to run away from war, they are running away from a phrase that is not even imaginable by the majority of the world. Thus there is no safe place that they are running towards. In Turkey, Greece and Jordan, refugees are living on the streets, without a proper shelter, trying to survive. Even the simple rights such as education and healthcare are being violated. Therefore, we as the peoples of this world are obliged to help.
I cannot express how excited and grateful I am to be given the chance to serve as the deputy-president of the “SPECIAL” Conference. I am looking forward to meet you all.
