Dear Delegates, Student Officers and Advisors,
I'm Kutay, a junior at Robert College of İstanbul. I've been doing Model United Nations
the past two and a half years; and I'm glad that I will be serving as the Deputy President of
ECOSOC at RCIMUN 2012 after a rather unusual MUN journey that most recently took me
to committees taking place in 16th century England and the ancient Roman Republic.
I believe that the Economic and Social Council is a body unlike any other in the United
Nations: The scope of ECOSOC's work is immense as most if not all crises our world
faces today have economic and social causes or results. Yet, ECOSOC manages to focus on
extremely specific problems and provide the world with precise solutions. For this reason,
whether we will be working in meticulous details on improving aid efficiency, debt payment
plans or Core Labor Standards; each clause we pass and each solution that we come up with
are not to affect a single people or country—they are meant to resonate with the all the nations
or regions facing problems of a similar nature. This is quite a thrilling aspect of our committee
that I believe you'll want to remember as you prepare.
Enough business, though. I have a life outside Model United Nations as well (a fact that I will
be finding increasingly hard to believe as I work on the Research Reports for the committee.)
My interests include reading and writing literature, art history, philosophy and playing the
clarinet. My passion in life is acting, I've been in the school's theatre company since my
second week at Robert College; and I intend to get an acting education after graduating from
here.
Things I am fond include Italian food, sarcasm and world music.
Sincerely,
Kutay Onaylı
